STEM Seminar 6: Materials for Autonomy in Extreme Environments
Updated: Aug 18, 2020
The final STEM seminar was led by Professor Clive Siviour from Pembroke College, Oxford. The points raised in this seminar approached autonomy and machine learning from an engineering perspective. Professor Siviour focused on four key elements as part of this recorded lecture: the importance of material selection, types of material available to the engineer, high temperature materials, and a case study on analytical calculations designed to test rigidity of materials. These ideas form the basis of the construction of autonomous machines which are designed to withstand extreme tests while in operation.
